give away to charity. Consider a garage sale. |
Call Physicians and Dentists. They may recommend a
colleague near your new home. |
Get copies of renewable prescriptions. |
Check homeowner’s insurance policies to see if moving /
storage is covered. |
Arrange transfer of school records. |
Start preparing your house plants for the move. |
Transfer personal insurance records. |

3 Weeks
Before |
Plan to use up most food items before you move.
|
Check and clear tax assessments. |
Arrange to have major appliances serviced before you
move them. |
Use up or give away aerosols, flammables, &
corrosives. Fuel tanks must be emptied. |
Call your local newspaper subscription for cancellation
or change of address. |
Notify the Post Office and get change of address forms. |
Notify magazines to which you subscribe. |

2 Weeks
Before |
Make your travel reservations for the trip. |
Return library books & other items you have borrowed.
Collect things loaned & items in layaway. |
Close or transfer all charge accounts. |
Arrange to discontinue utilities and delivery services. |
Dispose or give away cleaning fluids, acids & caustic
drain cleaners, etc. |
Arrange for cable TV disconnection. Arrange utilities
connection in new home. |
Draw up a floor plan of your new home and indicate
where to place your furniture. |

1 Week
Before |
Transfer bank accounts and ask your local credit bureau
to transfer your records to your new city. |
Reconfirm travel reservations. Arrange to have payment
ready for driver before your goods are unloaded. |
Set aside maps, games, snacks, flashlight, movies,
medicines & important papers you’ll take in your car for your trip. |
Your local phone company
can assist with your phone service in your new home & disconnect your
current phone. |
Drain water from garden hoses. Drain gasoline from
lawn mower. |
Start packing suitcases. |
If we are packing your goods, leave items in place. It
is easier for packers to pack that way. |

Day
Before |
Put cleaning supplies,
toiletries and a coffee pot in a special box to be loaded last and unloaded
first.
Finish packing suitcases.
Defrost, clean and dry
refrigerator.

Moving
Day ! |
Be on hand all day to answer questions, accompany
driver during inventory, sign bill of lading, and confirm your new address
and delivery date. Be sure to advise him of your enroute accommodations and
telephone number, if known. Make final check of every room and storage
area. Make sure windows and doors are locked, keys are transferred and
lights are out. |
